Music Audition Requirements for Summer Programs (Grades 3-6)

Memorization: Not required for music auditions unless directly specified.

Advanced Piano

Prepare and record two works that represent your overall ability. Submit these as two video audition files containing one work each. Works must be memorized. Examples of the appropriate level of solo repertoire include but are not limited to:

  • Bach - 2-part Inventions
  • Beethoven - Sonata, Op. 49
  • Mozart - Sonata, K. 545

Advanced Strings

Prepare and record two works that represent your overall ability. Submit these as two video audition files containing one work each. Examples for each instrument are listed below, but you are not limited to these choices. Piano accompaniment is preferred, but not required.

  • Violin: Concerti by Bach, Mendelssohn, Mozart
  • Viola: Concerti by Telemann, CPE Bach, or movements from the Bach Cello Suites
  • Cello: Concerti by Golterman, Haydn, or movements from the Bach Cello Suites

Admission Deadlines and Dates

Pre-Assessment Deadline: Dec. 1

If you submit your application by the pre-assessment deadline, your application will be reviewed by the Office of Admission to ensure your materials are complete and meet all requirements prior to its priority review after the Jan. 15 deadline. Please note this is not an artistic review of your audition or portfolio materials.

Priority Application Deadline: Jan. 15

(Decisions Sent: March 1)

Rolling Decision Deadline: Ongoing 

Students applying for programs that require an audition or portfolio after Jan. 15 will be admitted on a rolling basis as space allows.
