Why Take Advanced Bassoon Intensive

The bassoon is a challenging, versatile, and beautiful instrument. During this intensive, you will work with our world-renowned faculty alongside other talented young bassoonists. This week will help you develop as a musician, student, and performing artist.

What You'll Learn

With small class sizes, you will receive personalized instruction and opportunities. Our goal is to help you prepare for further study at the college and conservatory level. This challenging curriculum includes:

  • Master classes
  • Clinics
  • Advanced performance technique
  • Orchestral excerpts
  • Solo repertoire (concerti and sonatas)
  • Large bassoon ensemble

Students also have the opportunity to participate in the following focused workshops:

  • Practice technique time
  • Reed scraping technique
  • The art of tone production
  • How to cope with performance anxiety
  • The college audition process
  • Contrabassoon

Program Highlights

Distinguished Faculty

Our bassoon faculty are professional musicians and instructors who teach at both Interlochen and at other prestigious institutions around the globe. They are professional artists who are active participants in the music world. They are thoughtful, supportive, and eager to help you as you develop your career.

The Music Center

Our state-of-the-art music facility has two 3,500 square-foot rehearsal halls, two recording studios which allow for rehearsal and performance recordings in multiple venues on campus, multiple ensemble and practice rooms, and individual faculty teaching studios. Learn more about The Music Center.

Additional Opportunities

You are also welcome to apply to the Orchestra & Wind Ensemble program, which starts immediately following this one-week intensive.

Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers six music programs for students in grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.
