What You'll Learn

At Interlochen, you'll be met with an intensive schedule of master classes and lessons designed to prepare you for collegiate studies and beyond. You'll participate in advanced workshops on various historic performance styles, hone your own piano techniques and memorization skills, and explore movement with music.

Your hyper-focused week at Interlochen is designed to maximize your time at the piano and give you ample opportunities to observe and learn from your peers, faculty, and guest artists.

  • Alexander technique
  • Rhythm exercises through folk dancing

    Program Highlights

    Performance Opportunities and Venues

    Pianists will have several opportunities to perform in or attend student recitals. Students may also receive an invitation to perform live on Interlochen Public Radio. During this intensive you will have the opportunity to attend daily master classes with some of the world's leading pianists and teachers.

    Performance venues include the the 950-seat Corson Auditorium and the beautiful Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall.

    Additional Opportunities

    Pianists who are interested in focusing on jazz study are encouraged to apply to the three-week high school Jazz Performance & Improvisation program, which immediately follows this intensive.

    Organists or pianists who are focused on organ study may apply for our three-week high school Organ summer program. Inexperienced organists with a strong piano background are welcome to apply.

    Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers six music programs for grades 9-12.
