Academic Center for Enrichment

The Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) is the home of Interlochen's academic support services, serving the needs of our community's diverse learners.

Enrollment in ACE Programs and Courses

ACE has a specific referral process and procedure for parents, faculty, and staff to follow. If you would like your student to be evaluated by ACE staff, please speak to their Academic and College Counselor, or reach out directly to Dr. Kern. After speaking with you, an in-depth student analysis may be conducted.

Program Overview

The Academic Center for Enrichment features two programs built to specifically address distinct areas of need: Assisted Study and Tutoring. Please see below for a detailed breakdown of our programs.

Assisted Study facilitates the development of executive functioning and self-advocacy skills and the timely completion of academic obligations, including short and long-term assignments. This course is scheduled during the academic day. Attendance is taken and an appropriate learning environment is maintained. Enrollment in this course is on a semester basis.

Students are assigned a specific study area where an ACE faculty member provides guidance and support. Students are expected to come prepared with a work plan and the resources that they need. The program is beneficial to students who require a controlled environment that is free from distraction, and for whom an extra layer of monitoring may be necessary to fulfill academic requirements. ACE faculty check in with Assisted Study students each class period.

More individualized interventions to support executive functioning, reading or study skills, self-advocacy, and other areas designed to promote independent learners may be available when necessary.

Faculty Support
All academic and artistic instructors are available for additional help during scheduled daily office hours. Please consult class syllabi for more information.

Student Peer Tutors
For more regular tutoring support, peer tutors work with students. Peer tutors are available to work with students through the Writing and Math Center programs.

Professional Tutors
Interlochen works with several independent, professional tutors who can provide either in-person or remote tutoring over Zoom. The Student Support and Academic and College Counseling teams works closely with our professional tutors in order to provide the best possible services to students and families. For a fee of $60 per hour, tutors are available to provide 1:1 academic tutoring in a variety of subject areas. Tutoring session may be scheduled outside of class hours or during free periods or study halls. Families with demonstrated need may request a reduced or waived fee. Please contact your student's academic and college counselor or the Student Support Team (studentsupportteam@interlochen.org) for more information. Please see our list of Interlochen approved tutors
