Honors and Awards at the Academy

National Honor Society 

Consideration for admission to the National Honor Society is offered to current sophomores and juniors who have been enrolled at Interlochen for at least one semester and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. In addition to academic excellence, selection is based on demonstrated leadership, service, and character.

Honor Roll

At the end of each semester, students from all grade levels in good standing in their classes and as citizens within the school community, and who have no course withdrawals and no semester grades below a B- in Interlochen classes, will receive special recognition for earning the following (un-weighted) grade point averages:

Senior Honors

Senior Honors are awarded to graduating seniors who have achieved a 3.90 or higher cumulative grade point average on an unweighted 4.0 scale. This award accounts for all grades and credits earned in all subjects while enrolled at Interlochen Arts Academy.

Senior Speaker & Performer

Each year, one graduating senior is selected to deliver a speech, and another to share a performance at Commencement—two signature honors during this major year-end celebration. All seniors are encouraged to apply. Details and application guidelines are shared in the Provost News.

Senior Composition

Graduating seniors from any department are invited to submit original compositions for consideration to be performed at either Honors Convocation or Commencement. Details and application guidelines are shared in the Provost News. Final selections will be made by a faculty committee.

Academic, Artistic, and Community Awards 

Various Academic, Artistic, and Community Awards are given each year. These honor the distinguished achievements of students across our campus. Selected by faculty, these honors are open to students at all grade levels.

Recognition for awards and honors are given at Honors Convocation and/or our end-of-year Recognition assembly.
