Theatre Audition Requirements for Summer Programs (Grades 3-6)

Please note that for all Interlochen theatre auditions, videos of past performances do not meet our audition requirements. Please submit auditions that showcase only the applicant performing the required material below.

Acting Company Production

Video file: One monologue of 1-2 minutes in length. The material should be from a published play and can be either comedic or dramatic.

Musical Theatre Production

  • Video file # 1: One 1-minute monologue from a published play, movie, or book.
  • Video file # 2: One 1-minute song excerpt from a published musical.
  • Video file # 3: One brief video introduction. Should be no more than 1 minute in length. Please state your name, age, and answer the question "What is your favorite thing about musical theatre?"

Recommended plays for monologue choice: A Little Princess, Tangled, Freaky Friday, The Princess Diaries, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.

Recommended musicals for song choice: Captain Louie, Finian’s Rainbow, Godspell, Finding Nemo, The Addams Family, Newsies, The Wiz, Anastasia, Amélie, Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Secret Garden.

*Note: Monologues and songs should be memorized.

Admission Deadlines and Dates

Pre-Assessment Deadline: Dec. 1

If you submit your application by the pre-assessment deadline, your application will be reviewed by the Office of Admission to ensure your materials are complete and meet all requirements prior to its priority review after the Jan. 15 deadline. Please note this is not an artistic review of your audition or portfolio materials.

Priority Application Deadline: Jan. 15

(Decisions Sent: March 1)

Rolling Decision Deadline: Ongoing 

Students applying for programs that require an audition or portfolio after Jan. 15 will be admitted on a rolling basis as space allows.
