New: Interlochen Online to offer music and arts programs for adults.
Health Services
The safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority. We provide a robust array of services to ensure your health, safety, and well-being during your time at Interlochen.
Health Services is located in the east wing of Thor Johnson House, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our full-time staff of registered nurses treat ill and injured students, while also promoting healthy lifestyle choices. We also have a licensed nurse practitioner who holds regular office hours for treatment and referrals to local specialists.
Emergency medical services are located 1.5 miles from Interlochen’s main entrance and Munson Medical Center, a level II trauma center and referral hospital, is just a short drive away in Traverse City. Munson Medical Center has nearly 300 physicians practicing in 35 specialties.
Services
Our nurse practitioner provides a wide range of health care services including the diagnosis and management of acute, chronic, and complex health problems. Clinic hours are held on-campus for any student referred by one of the nurses, faculty, parent, or the student themselves.
Interlochen offers psychological and mental health support for students through on-campus professionals as well as a partnership with Tele-counseling service HelloHero. Counseling services are coordinated by Student Support.
For safety, all student prescriptions must be maintained in Health Services and dispensed by our nurses to students. If a student forgets to pick up their medication, a nurse will remind them.
Our medical whirlpool is located in Health Services and is free to students. A student may call or stop by Health Services to reserve a time.
Representatives from Elite Physical Therapy are on campus every Wednesday and Friday to evaluate and treat students. Elite PT will bill a student’s medical insurance for their services if provided a prescription. A student may obtain a prescription from a primary care provider or by Interlochen's nurse practitioner.
If a laboratory test is ordered, a nurse will obtain the necessary sample to send it to Munson Medical Center for analysis. Test results will be sent to Health Services, the ordering provider, and the parent/guardian upon request.
Thompson Pharmacy fills prescriptions ordered through our Health Services department and delivers the medication free of charge to students. Those prescriptions can be written and received by a student’s primary care provider or prescribed after a student has visited the nurse practitioner in the Provider Clinic. Thompson Pharmacy will bill a student’s insurance directly and any copays are deducted from the student account through our billing office.
The Health Services staff assist students with appointment and transportation arrangements for all off-campus appointments.
