Dining

dining services at interlochen center for the arts

A healthy body is the foundation of great art, which is why our Dining Services team strives to prepare the highest quality meals for our students, staff, and guests.

As an Arts Academy student, you'll eat your meals in Stone Cafeteria, which is conveniently located at the heart of our campus. Entrees and soups are made from scratch, and menus are updated weekly to take advantage of an abundance of fresh local produce—including items from our on-campus garden.

Stone Cafeteria offers a variety of stations to accommodate different tastes, moods, and dietary needs. Stations include:

Hot entree — Hot food options are available at all three meals. Lunch and dinner menus include a meat, a starch, and a vegetable, as well vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free entrees.

Soup — Warm up during lunch or dinner with one our two house-made soups. At least one vegetarian soup is always available.

Salad — Our salad bar—available at lunch and dinner—offers a variety greens, chopped veggies, beans, grains, cheeses, and house-made dressings, allowing you to build a custom salad creation. Themed salads, such as Greek or Caesar, are offered several times per week.

Deli bar — Craft your own sandwich at our deli bar, which features a smorgasbord of breads, vegetables, sauces, spreads, and sliced meat and cheese.

Fruit and side dishes — In addition to our hot side dishes, a selection of cold sides, like potato salad, coleslaw, or pasta salad, are offered during lunch and dinner. Fresh fruit, such as apples, bananas, oranges, melon, pineapple, and/or berries, is available at every meal.

Cold cereal — A wide variety of cold cereals—including gluten-free options—are available during breakfast.

Spices and oils — Add an extra kick to your meal or create your own salad dressings with a selection of spices, oils, vinegars, and sauces.

Drinks — Quench your thirst with our wide variety of drinks. Hot beverages, including coffee, tea, and hot cocoa, are offered at all three meals. Cold options include sparkling and still water; fruit juice; chocolate, 2%, and skim milk; and milk alternatives, such as soy or rice milk.

Desserts — A limited selection of desserts are offered at some—but not all—meals.

We prepare a wide range of menu items at every meal to ensure that students with specific dietary needs can find nutritionally balanced meals that are both delicious and satisfying.

One cafeteria line is dedicated to menu items that are gluten free, vegetarian, or vegan. Our simple, color-coded labeling system will help you select menu items that are appropriate for your personal dietary needs.

Gluten Free (GF, red): does not contain ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals such as wheat, barley, rye, malts, and triticale. The menus are full of nutrient-rich foods that are naturally gluten-free, such as lean meats, fruits, nuts and seeds, gluten-free pastas, quinoa, and brown rice.

Vegetarian (V, blue): does not contain meat, which includes poultry and seafood. These menus utilize a variety of vegetarian protein sources, such as legumes, tofu, whole grains, cheese, and eggs. Sample entrees include veggie lasagna, zucchini au gratin, and soy nuggets.

Vegan (VG, green): does not contain any animal products, such as meat, dairy, or eggs. Sample entrees could include tofu provençal, veggie and hummus flatbread pizza, or spanakorizo.

While we cannot provide individualized diet plans for every student, we do our best to accommodate students with food allergies. If you have a food allergy, please follow the process below:

  1. Contact the Dining Services team at dining@interlochen.org to schedule a consultation. We usually hold these meetings face-to-face during move-in weekend.
  2. Prepare a written description of your food allergies. Please email this description to the Dining Services team prior to your on-campus meeting.
  3. Notify Health Services about your dietary needs and restrictions.
  4. Meet with the Dining Services team. During your consultation, we will work together to develop a plan that accommodates your needs. These accommodations may include advance notice of menu items containing allergens and access to food storage, refrigerators, and microwaves that are safe from cross-contamination.
  5. Implement your plan. In order for your plan to be successful, you must be an active participant and adhere to its guidelines. We will remain in close contact with you and adjust your plan as necessary.
