Strengthen your intonation, bowing, rhythm, and practice routines. By completing this certificate program, you’ll develop a structured process for improving your technique, expanding your performance skills to a multitude of musical styles, and gaining practical experience in self-recording techniques.

Taught by a world-class violinist and educator, the Violin Methods certificate program offers a unique opportunity to deepen your craft, earn a valuable credential, and receive credit from Interlochen. This program is designed for both adults and teens and consists of three four-week courses that must be taken in sequential order.

Violin Methods 1

Play practice patterns for any scale to improve intonation, bowing, and rhythm
Build an efficient and effective practice routine to make the most of your time
Perform for your teacher and classmates while giving and receiving constructive feedback
Make a rhythmic “obstacle course” to improve your sight-reading skills
Measure your progress through before-and-after videos of your playing and feedback from your teacher

Violin Methods 2

Improve bow speed, weight, and contact point to produce controlled tone and dynamics across various sections of the bow
Accurately identify and execute a range of dynamics while playing
Strengthen rhythmic accuracy and confidence to execute complex rhythmic patterns, focusing on syncopations, off-beat entrances, and rests
Play major and minor scales, along with two-octave finger patterns, with improved technical execution

Violin Methods: Exploring Pop, Celtic, & Jazz

Perform and record violin parts in pop music, including both background and lead roles, while understanding their role in studio settings
Demonstrate proficiency in traditional folk fiddle techniques, including left-hand and right-hand embellishments, and apply them to Celtic, bluegrass, and other folk tunes
Gain improvisational skills in jazz by learning rhythmic patterns, blues scales, and chord progressions and applying them to both structured and spontaneous jazz settings
Develop technical and professional skills to record in commercial music settings, including mic placement, studio etiquette, and self-recording techniques
