Taught by a professional set designer, the Theatre Production: Set Design certificate program offers a unique opportunity to deepen your craft, earn a valuable credential, and receive credit from Interlochen. This program is designed for both adults and teens and consists of three four-week courses that must be taken in sequential order:

Theatre Production: Set Design 1

✔Identify the roles and responsibilities of a professional scenic designer
✔Use script analysis and research techniques to create informed set design concepts
✔Create cohesive inspiration boards that articulate your design choices for a specific production
✔Use SketchUp software to create basic 3D models of theatrical sets

Theatre Production: Set Design 2

✔Create and refine scenic designs using SketchUp and hand-drawing techniques
✔Produce sketches, renderings, and drafting views that visually communicate design ideas
✔Identify and apply period style elements in the development of scenic concepts
✔Create a complete scenic design package that includes initial ideas, ground plans, and presentation-ready documents

Theatre Production: Set Design 3

✔Create and refine curved and sculptural forms in SketchUp using arcs, contours, and smoothing tools
✔Integrate architectural and organic features to model complex scenic environments
✔Use radial arrays, symmetry, and repetition to construct visually balanced stage elements
✔Apply stylization, fantasy design, and dramatic visual techniques to enhance 3D scenic storytelling
