Theatre Production: Set Design 3
Create stylized, curved, and sculptural scenic environments for stage, using advanced tools and techniques to design visually dynamic settings.
This four-week course begins by teaching you how to draw, smooth, and extrude complex curves in the industry-standard SketchUp software. You’ll learn to design ornate trims, circular cutouts, and dramatic portals that elevate stage architecture and add visual storytelling to your scenic work. Your work will focus on precision and creative decision-making as you shape custom features.
You’ll then explore terrain modeling, contour sculpting, and the integration of organic and architectural forms. You’ll experiment with symmetry, radial array tools, and how to combine repetition with variation to create dynamic forms like domes, abstract staircases, or stylized temples.
To finish, you’ll step into the world of fantasy and stylization—designing theatrical spaces that emphasize mood, scale, and storytelling. You’ll learn how to exaggerate visual elements, pace architectural forms, and enhance your scenes using SketchUp’s camera, shadow, and style tools. By the final week, you’ll have created a fully modeled fantasy environment that showcases your scenic vision, technical skill, and creative voice.
