Songwriting Techniques 2

Learn to write powerful lyrics, expand your harmonic palette, and craft melodies that draw in listeners.

Strengthen the three essential facets of your songwriting: lyrics, harmony, and melody. This course teaches you advanced rhyming techniques, exploring everything from perfect rhymes to creative alternatives that will add depth and substance to your lyrics. You'll learn to break down words into their component sounds, opening up a richer landscape of word choices that contribute meaningfully to your songs.

The course explores how to breathe new life into your chord progressions, using approach chords, note-based chord selection, and other strategies that will add color to your compositions. You’ll also discover ways of creating transitions between verses and choruses, allowing you to craft unified melodies that effectively convey the emotion of your song.

Throughout the course, you'll engage in practical exercises and songwriting assignments with direct feedback from your instructor and peers. By analyzing your favorite songs and experimenting with new techniques, you'll develop a deeper understanding of what makes a song truly compelling. — Adult learner,
    Songwriting Techniques 1

“The course moves fast and actually sets a high standard that matches Interlochen. Interlochen is the place for artists. This course was not fluff. It was practical tools, delivered in a genuinely helpful and strategic way. I would definitely sign up for Shane's other courses."

— Adult learner,
    Songwriting Techniques 1

“I liked that the instructor was always friendly, positive and very inspiring. He was very passionate about songwriting, his methods, and helping students to achieve success at their personal ability levels.”

— Adult learner,

“I loved this course! I had no real songwriting experience prior to the course. I was excited to take it, but I didn't realize how much time and effort I would want to put into it—but I got so much out of it. I also got to experience writing my own songs and getting them stuck in my head, which was great. I signed up for Shane's next course because I don't want this to end.”
