Taught by a professional pianist, the Classical Piano certificate program offers a unique opportunity to deepen your craft, earn a valuable credential, and receive credit from Interlochen. This program is designed for both adults and teens and consists of three four-week courses that may be taken in any order:

Classical Piano: How to Play Für Elise

Play “Für Elise” fluently, incorporating proper fingerings, hand positions, and chord transitions
Identify and apply essential music theory concepts, including major and minor chords, intervals, and chromatic scales
Utilize effective practice strategies to enhance memorization, articulation, and interpretation of classical repertoire
Analyze and interpret “Für Elise” within its historical and stylistic context, making informed artistic choices in performance

Classical Piano: How to Play Chopin's Prelude in E Minor 

Play an arrangement of Chopin’s Prelude in E-Minor
Develop and apply structured practice strategies to improve efficiency and deepen your understanding of the piece
Analyze and interpret the musical elements of the prelude, ensuring your performance aligns with the Romantic Period’s stylistic characteristics
Strengthen your technical abilities by performing right-hand melodic patterns and left-hand chord progressions

Classical Piano: How to Play Clair de Lune

Perform Claude Debussy's “Clair de Lune”
Apply reflective strategies to identify and target specific musical or technical challenges you're having with the composition
Use layered, hands-alone and integrated techniques to build control, voicing, and memory
Strengthen focus and musical fluency through timing, mental mapping, and embodied rehearsal
