Become a confident, dynamic stage performer. You’ll strengthen your acting, singing, and movement abilities with Broadway veterans who will help you prepare for your next audition and give you the confidence you need to build a successful theatre career.

Taught by a world-class faculty of actors, singers, dancers, and educators, the Musical Theatre Studies certificate program offers a unique opportunity to deepen your craft, earn a valuable credential, and receive credit from Interlochen. This program is designed for both adults and teens and consists of three four-week courses that can be taken in any order.

Musical Theatre: Singing Techniques

✔Develop a routine that includes practical and effective warm-up exercises
✔Improve your performance of a song by identifying vocal transitions, preventing consonants from impeding your vocal production, and developing ease with phrasing
✔Make effective use of dynamics to heighten the emotional impact of the performance
✔Develop strategies for understanding the meaning of a song, memorizing it, and delivering it authentically
✔Evaluate your own performance and make adjustments based on feedback from others
✔Gain strategies to ensure you are prepared for professional auditions

Musical Theatre: Acting Techniques

✔Apply acting techniques to develop complex characters with specific circumstances for your song performance
✔Analyze music and text to develop a clearer understanding of the story
✔Make specific acting choices in your performance to communicate a clear and compelling story
✔Develop and maintain a repertoire (rep) book for auditions that will showcase several musical theatre styles

Musical Theatre: Movement Techniques

✔Apply techniques that improve your movement abilities in general and musical movement abilities specifically
✔Use exercise routines to enhance your movement ability
✔Explore iconic performances in which actors have used physicality and movement to portray their characters
✔Apply research, observation, and an understanding of your own physicality to make choices about who you are portraying and how they move through space
✔Perform a scene, song, or monologue using the techniques covered in the course in preparation for your next audition

No, course sections are designed for their respective age groups, either for adults (students 18 and older) or young people (students under 18).
