Fantasy Fiction Writing
From imagining to outlining to drafting, learn how to compose compelling fantasy stories of your own.
This four-week course will guide you through the enchanted forests of world-building, the mystical depths of character development, and the winding paths of captivating plotlines. Drawing inspiration from both classical and contemporary authors, you'll explore the rich history of the fantasy genre while honing your own unique voice.
Each week, you'll dive into a new aspect of fantasy writing, including the evolution of the genre, from ancient myths to modern classics; techniques for creating immersive and believable worlds, including mapping and magic systems; developing unique and compelling characters that break stereotypes; and crafting plots that keep readers engaged.
Through a mix of discussions, readings from renowned authors like J.R.R. Tolkien, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Gabriel García Márquez, and hands-on writing exercises, you'll hone your skills and gain a toolkit of techniques to continue your writing journey. By the end of the course, you'll have created several original fantasy pieces, including a story set in a reimagined historical period, a unique fantasy map, a reimagined character archetype, and the aftermath of an epic conflict
Whether you dream of penning the next epic series or simply want to explore your creativity, this course offers a supportive environment to grow as a writer.
