Acting for Comedy

Man with a script on stage.

From classic sitcoms to single-camera comedies, explore the comedic acting techniques that make audiences laugh out loud.

Being a comedic actor is a great thrill and requires great skill, and this four-week course will show you essential techniques to nail the punchline every time. Led by a seasoned professional with extensive credits in network, Disney, and Nickelodeon comedies, the course explores how to break down scenes, identify beats, develop your character, and use the power of surprise. You'll discover important facets of both multi-camera sitcoms and single-camera comedies, so that you can work with the unique demands of each format with regard to timing, energy, and the audience.

You'll gain invaluable insights into the logistics of working on a professional comedy set, from understanding blocking and camera angles to adapting to last-minute script changes, pick-up shots, and working with or without scene partners. Through hands-on exercises and real-world audition simulations, you'll develop your comedic timing, deliver effective punchlines, and create memorable characters. By the end of the course, you'll be equipped with a comprehensive toolkit that will help you stand out in auditions and on set.
