Course Experience
Each four-week course is designed to fit alongside school, work, and other commitments. Most students spend approximately five hours per week engaging with course material, including video lessons, guided learning, and hands-on creative work.
Within each week, students have flexibility to complete coursework on their own schedule. Throughout the term, students can ask questions, engage with instructors and peers, and receive personalized feedback on creative assignments or projects. If a student begins a term and later finds that their schedule no longer allows them to fully engage, they may move their enrollment to a future term.
Certificate Programs
Interlochen Online certificate programs provide a more structured, in-depth learning experience and comprise of three four-week courses. Certificate courses follow the same academic calendar as individual courses and are available to begin in every session.
In most cases, certificate program students take one course per session. Some certificate programs recommend a specific course sequence, while others allow for flexibility in course order. Detailed guidance, including sequencing and whether multiple courses may be taken at the same time, is outlined on each individual certificate program page.
Certificate program students are not required to enroll all of their courses in consecutive sessions. For example, a student may begin a certificate in January, skip a February session, and continue with their next course later when better fits their schedule. Upon registering, students may schedule their first course and determine their other course sessions at another time.
Private Lessons
In addition to courses and certificate programs, Interlochen Online offers weekly private lessons. Private lessons are available year-round at any time and are not tied to session start dates. Students may enroll in their desired number of lessons and add more as needed.
