Interlochen Arts Camp Staff Housing
Rooms are available for Interlochen Arts Camp staff in the Thor Johnson House residence hall on campus, plus select other residence halls on a limited basis.
Camp staff rooms in Thor Johnson are double occupancy bedrooms with bunk beds and a semi-private bathroom between two adjoining bedrooms.

Yes, all residence halls have WiFi.
All residence hall rooms have twin size mattresses. Most are on bunk beds.
No, you cannot change your bed size or mattress.
Interlochen does not provide bedding and towels. Please plan to bring your own bedding including sheets, blankets, pillows, and bath towels. You may also choose to purchase individual pieces or a bedding/towel set online for pick up on campus at the Scholarshop.
Every residence hall has coin-operated washers and dryers. Each load is $1.50 which can only be paid in quarters. Change machines are located in DeRoy, Picasso, and TJ residence halls. Also, the front desk of the Stone Hotel has $10 rolls of quarters available for purchase. Residence halls also have washers and dryers that accept mobile payment through the free PayRange app (instructions are located on the machines). You will need to bring your own laundry detergent/supplies.
No, residence halls are not air conditioned. Please plan to bring your own room fan, if desired.
Appliances with a heating element must include a built-in, auto-shut off (non-delayed) and must be UL listed in order to be used in residence hall rooms. Small refrigerators may be kept in residence hall rooms if they are not placed in the closets, bathrooms or entryways. Refrigerators must be plugged into the wall with three-pronged plugs. No other electrical appliance or lamp may be plugged into a wall socket with a refrigerator even when there are two plugs available at the wall.
Space heaters are not allowed. Hair dryers, curlers and hair straighteners may be used in the rooms; however, they must be unplugged when not in use. All appliances, lamps, fans, etc., used in residence halls must be UL listed. All UL listed appliances must be clearly marked. If it is not marked as such, don't bring it.
Garbage and recycle bins are located near all of the residence halls.
We are pleased to provide basic cleaning supplies in every residence hall. Cleaning rags, all-purpose cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, and trash bags are available to residents.
Our campus mailroom is located in the basement of the Maddy Building and is open Monday through Saturday. The mailroom sells stamps and can process outgoing USPS envelopes and small packages; please note we accept cash or checks only.
The Stone Waterfront and Boat Cave areas are for use by faculty and staff. Employees are expected to swim at the Stone Waterfront during posted open hours. Divisional waterfronts are for the use of campers and divisional staff ONLY. Swimming is not permitted at any time in unregulated areas, including, but not limited to: behind Lochaven, between waterfronts near the Intermediate Lakeside grassy area, in front of Dow House, or in front of the lakefront rental cottages.
As safety is our primary concern, all patrons are expected to follow posted waterfront regulations. Swimmers wanting to use the deep-water/raft area or any boating equipment are required to pass the 10-minute swim test. This test consists of swimming 50 yards, putting on & removing a PFD in deep water, then swimming, floating, or treading water for the remainder of 10 minutes. The deep-water area is delineated by buoy lines; untested swimmers must remain in the shallow water area.
The Interlochen State Park (Duck Lake) is located directly across the street from our main campus. You are welcome to utilize their waterfront; however, they do require a recreation passport. Please also respect their facility hours; the waterfront closes at 10:00 p.m.
