Deep Cuts with Interlochen Jazz Combos and Orchestra

Experience Interlochen’s jazz combos and orchestra alongside acclaimed saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator Diego Rivera. A Michigan native and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, Rivera has performed and toured internationally for more than 20 years, appearing with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, Kurt Elling, and the Rodney Whitaker Quintet. Known for his powerful sound and distinctive blend of straight-ahead jazz and influences from his Mexican-American heritage, Rivera brings his experience as a performer and educator to this showcase, which explores a selection of lesser-known works and fresh arrangements while highlighting the creativity, energy, and musicianship of Interlochen’s student performers.
