Faculty Recital: Lenny Ranallo, guitar, and Yolanda Tapia, piano

A guitarist and a pianist perform together on a small indoor stage. The guitarist, seated at left, plays a classical guitar while reading sheet music on a stand. The pianist, seated at right, plays a grand piano. Both musicians are dressed in formal black attire. A microphone is positioned near the guitar, and a colorful vertical banner stands behind them. The setting appears to be a recital or chamber music concert.

The Ranallo Tapia Duo unites Mexican pianist Yolanda Tapia and American guitarist Leonard Ranallo, whose collaboration began during artist residencies at the Banff Centre. What started as a creative spark quickly grew into a deep musical partnership grounded in a shared passion for blending classical, jazz, and Latin American folk influences.

Their program, Latin American Sonatas for Guitar and Piano, showcases composers from across the Americas who weave folk traditions into contemporary concert music. With two instruments that naturally bridge classical and folk roots, the duo brings forward the colors, rhythms, and emotional landscapes of 20th and 21st century Latin American repertoire.
