Why return to Interlochen Arts Camp?

Here are our top three reasons why next summer at Arts Camp could be your best summer yet.

Each year, many students choose to return to Arts Camp for a second, third, or even fourth year. There's a reason why so many young artists come back—the benefits of Arts Camp multiply over time. From the chance to work with new guest artists to the opportunity to try something new, here are three reasons why you should consider returning to Arts Camp next summer.

Work with amazing new guest artists

One of the most exciting things about coming back to Interlochen each summer is the chance to learn from new guest artists. Every summer, Interlochen brings in talented artists from around the world to mentor students. Each guest is an established professional who publishes, performs, or exhibits their work. Recent guest artists have included world-famous pianist Lang Lang, slam poet S.C. Says, and Broadway actress Lily Kaufmann. When you work with a professional guest artist, you gain valuable industry know-how and learn the secrets of your art form from someone who has been practicing it for years. Plus, the more you're exposed to professional artists, the more you'll be able to envision what a future in the arts might look like for you.

Take your creative capacities to the next level

Another reason to come back to Arts Camp is that your skills will develop much further than they did last year. If last year was your first year, you probably spent a fair amount of time figuring everything out—where everything was, how your schedule worked, and who you wanted to spend time with. As a returning student, you'll already know your way around and have friends waiting for you. You'll feel much more comfortable on campus, which means you'll have more time and energy to focus on building your artistic gifts.

When you return to Arts Camp, you'll also face a higher difficulty level. If you're a musician, you can look forward to learning more advanced repertoire that pushes you to perfect your skills. If you're a dancer, you might learn more challenging choreography. If you're studying theatre, this could be your chance to take on a bigger role in the summer production. And if you've been working on your skills during the school year, you'll find that your instructors have more advanced feedback to give you—which means your skills will develop even more quickly.

Try something new

Your high school years are the ideal time to experiment and explore. To get a glimpse into multiple art areas at once, try the Interdisciplinary Arts program and explore several of your interests in a few intensive weeks. Another approach is to move toward a more specialized program or genre. For example, if you studied creative writing at Camp last year and really enjoyed a workshop on novel writing, you might like to take the Novel Writing Intensive. Or you could switch divisions and see how your writing skills can thrive in the theatre world with Interlochen's Songwriting for Musical Theatre Intensive. Whatever you choose to study, summer at Interlochen Arts Camp is the perfect chance to explore your gifts and interests in many different directions. There's no place like Interlochen for experiencing the magic that happens when you bring together multiple arts disciplines and creative students from all around the world.

Picture yourself walking through Interlochen's pine-shaded paths next summer—but this time, you know exactly where you're going. You wave to friends from last year, you help a nervous first-year camper find the dining hall, and you step into the studio or rehearsal space with the confidence of someone who belongs there. This is your place now, and you're ready to create something extraordinary.

Interlochen gets better each year you attend. You'll grow exponentially as an artist, build deeper bonds with friends and instructors, and become more empowered to pursue your biggest dreams in college and beyond. Come back to Interlochen Arts Camp this summer and discover what's waiting for you.
