Ted Soluri has been the principal bassoonist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since 2015. Prior to his appointment, he held the same position with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Santa Fe Opera.

Soluri has made numerous solo appearances, including Mozart’s Concerto for Bassoon in Bb major, KV. 191; Carl Maria von Weber’s Bassoon Concerto in F major and Andante and Hungarian Rondo; Ferdinand David’s Concertino; Richard Strauss’ Duett-concertino for clarinet, bassoon, strings and harp; Michael Daugherty’s Dead Elvis, and Jurien Andriessen’s Concertino. Additionally, he has performed concertos commissioned for him by composers Marc Neikrug and Jerod Tate.

In 2017, Soluri released his debut CD titled Sempre Libera. The recording consists of opera arias for bassoon and piano, and stemmed from Mr. Soluri’s great love of the voice, and operatic repertoire in particular. His next recording, titled songs of late season, will be released in 2024. The recording showcases French music for bassoon and harp, and he is joined by Dallas Symphony harpist, Emily Levin.

In the fall of 2019, Soluri began a teaching post at Southern Methodist University. While in Milwaukee, he taught at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, and the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Soluri has also given master classes at The Florida State University, the Eastman School of Music, The University of Wisconsin, Lawrence University, Ball State University, McGill University, the New World Symphony, as well as the Glickman-Popkin Bassoon Camp.

Soluri received his Bachelor of Music degree from The Florida State University and his Master of Music degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music. He plays Fox bassoons and is a Fox Artist.

I believe wholeheartedly in asking my students as many questions as they ask me. I want every student to leave me confident in saying they have a reason behind everything they do musically.
