About Sean

Sean Kelliher is a cellist and pedagogue committed to the intersection of performance, education, and community engagement.

Kelliher began his music studies at the University of Texas San Antonio where he developed as a performer in both chamber and orchestral settings. Following his time in San Antonio, he pursued his Masters of Music and Performance Certificate at the Lamont School of music at the University of Denver where he began his professional career as performer and teacher.

During his time in Denver, Kelliher played professionally in orchestras such as the Boulder Symphony, Symphony of the Rockies, and the Arapahoe Philharmonic. As a chamber musician his quartet was invited to play at both the Lamont Showcase and for Denver Friends of Chamber Music productions.

Currently, Kelliher is based in West Texas at Texas Tech University where he is pursuing his Doctorate in Musical Arts and is the cello studio’s graduate teaching assistant. Kelliher also holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Texas Dallas. He has studied with distinguished cellists including Holgen Gjoni, Ryan Murphy, Matthew Zalkind, and Jeffrey Lastrapes.

Kelliher is a fully registered Suzuki instructor through Book 10 and has maintained a vibrant private teaching studio.

I believe that every student can learn and grow through a supportive, nurturing environment that emphasizes both technical development and musical expression. Drawing from my Suzuki training and performance background, I aim to foster a love of music while equipping students with the skills and confidence to reach their full potential. My teaching blends structure with creativity, encouraging curiosity, discipline, and joy in the learning process.
