Noah Steele
About Noah
A native of Buffalo New York, Noah Steele is a double bassist ans musicologist specializing in the study and performance of post-war American music. His research focuses on the intersection of music, literature, and media studies within SUNY Buffalo’s Creative Associates.
A devoted educator, Steele has been the Double Bass Teaching Fellow at Interlochen Arts Camp since 2022. He has performed with The Rochester Philharmonic, South Bend Symphony, Traverse City Philharmonic, The Brevard Music Center, and the New Opera Works {NOW} Festival in Cleveland, Ohio. Steele holds degrees from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and Baldwin Wallace University. His primary instructors include Kurt Muroki, Charles Carleton, and Brett Shurtliffe.
Steele is a proud member the International Society of Bassists, American Musicological Society, and Society for American Music.
He performs on a double bass made by Albert Jakstadt and a bow by Jordan Scapinello.
I believe music education teaches students the value of setting and achieving long-term goals, increasing their self-confidence and independence. I strive to communicate these values to my students and be a positive role model for all young bassists.
