About Morgen

Morgen Low is a Trumpet Fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. Prior to joining NWS, Low was a freelance performer and brass instrument repair technician in the Chicagoland area. During this time, she performed as Principal Trumpet of the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra and held an Associate Membership with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has also made substitute appearances with the Louisville Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Seraph Brass. In the fall of 2022, she competed in the Next Generation Trumpet Competition and was named the First Prize winner.

In 2019, Low received a summer fellowship with the Tanglewood Music Center, where her playing was lauded as “an unforgettable display of relaxed timing and dazzling technical mastery” in a review by the Berkshire Edge. Other summers have been spent performing at Spoleto Festival USA, Aspen Music Festival, and the Eastern Music Festival.

A lover of musical theater, Low has enjoyed playing in the pit for numerous productions in addition to her orchestral engagements. Recent performances include Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera, La Cage Au Folles, Company, The Little Mermaid, Nine, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, and Annie.

After completing her bachelor of music degree at Oberlin Conservatory under the guidance of Roy Poper, she went on to receive a master of music degree from Northwestern University. There she studied with David Bilger, Channing Philbrick, Thomas Rolfs, Michael Sachs, and Robert Sullivan. She is also an alumna of Interlochen Arts Academy.
