About Lindsay

Lindsay Clipner is the founder & artistic director of RISE ARTS Collective, curating multidisciplinary projects in movement, media, and performing arts. She is a cultural producer, filmmaker, documentarian, photographer, choreographer, and dance educator. She choreographed "after hours" featuring musical collaboration by Lune Ruse & Carlos Pesina Siller of Los Amparito.

She has partnered with the Merce Cunningham Trust to produce "In Conversation with Merce" in Kansas City, bringing his work to Kansas City after 20 years. This collaboration was staged by Patricia Lent and Dylan Crossman.

She was co-director for SFDanceworks’ fifth season in San Francisco-commissioning works by Yue Yin, Dani Rowe, Laura O'Malley, Babatunji Johnson, Edward Clug, and Martha Graham. She worked closely with regisseur Miki Orihara to bring the Graham repertoire to San Francisco and Kansas City.

She assisted Leo Holder and Carmen de Lavallade in the historic re-staging of Geoffrey Holder’s "The Creation", set upon ballerina Karen Brown (DTH). Facilitated by Sean McLeod and Devon McLeod of The New York Dance Festival at SAB.

Her dance photography has been featured in Fjord Review, Pointe Magazine, KCStudio, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Her films have premiered in exhibitions at The National Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the de Young Museum San Francisco, SFDFF, Dance Camera West, Bogotá Musica Video Festival, Dance Film Prague, Cultur’halle Film in Geneva and PNB Film Festival. "As Big as the Sky", choreographed by Katerina Eng Beckman, was filmed with permission by renowned artist James Turrell in his Skyspace "Three Gems" in San Francisco.

Her upcoming documentary follows choreographer Christian Warner’s "What Came with Spring", danced by Owen/Cox Dance Group.

She studied at Grand Valley State University, The Merce Cunningham Institute, American Dance Festival, SEAD in Austria, trained with teachers & mentors like Geri Houlihan, Lisa Catrett, Linda Graham, Milton Myers, Robert Swinston, Nicholas Leichter, Jimmy Orrante, Kraig Patterson, Patricia Lent, and Twyla Tharp.

Movement is discovery at its core. It fosters curiosity of physical vocabulary, of music, of ourselves, and most importantly, of one another.
