About Jennifer
Jennifer Parker-Harley, flutist and teacher, is on the faculty at the University of South Carolina School of Music. She brings her experience as an orchestral flutist (Columbus Symphony, Ft. Wayne Philharmonic, Chautauqua Symphony), recitalist and chamber musician to her studio at USC. Current projects, along with her USC students, include a blog that collects a piece of flute music for each day of the year (aflutistsbookofdays.com) and soon-to-be-released recordings of new works by composers Stephen Jaffe, Mary Koujoumdjian, Valerie Coleman, and Jeff Scott.
Born and raised in South Carolina, Parker-Harley graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music, Michigan State University, and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In the summers, she teaches at the National Music Festival in Chestertown, MD and the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan. She has also taught at summer festivals in Europe and South America. Parker-Harley is certified through the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults as a mindfulness teacher and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Mental Performance Coaching. She brings this interest in the mental aspect of performance to her students, who hold positions in orchestras, colleges and universities, arts organizations, and public schools throughout the country. She is on the artist roster for Powell flutes.
