About Elizabeth

Flutist and composer Elizabeth Goode is Professor of Music at Valdosta State University. She performs as Principal Flutist with the Valdosta and the Albany Symphony Orchestras and is an active orchestral player around the southeast. In the summer of 2018, she joined the faculty of the Interlochen Center for the Arts Adult Chamber Music Camp and has previously been on the artist faculty of the Orfeo International Music Festival in Vipiteno, Italy.

Goode's recent compositions include “blaze” for symphony orchestra (performed as the season opener for the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra); “Rongbuk” for bassoon and piano, performed at the Meg Quigley Bassoon Competition in January 2021 and the IDRS conference in July 2019; “King’s Cross,” for flute and string orchestra, which was premiered in Spring 2018 with the Albany Symphony Orchestra (she performed as soloist, as well); and “blue ridge: summer” for flute choir, premiered at the Smoky Mountain Flute Festival and later performed at the Florida State University Flute Festival. Goode is a frequent adjudicator, clinician, and performer at state and national conventions, including those of the National Flute Association, Florida Flute Association, College Music Society, American Society of Composers, Music Educator’s National Conference, Atlanta Flute Club, Kentucky Flute Society, and Raleigh Area Flute Association. Her article, “Good Vibrations: A Practical Approach to Intonation,” was published in Flute Talk magazine, a division of The Instrumentalist. She holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Tennessee, and the Master of Music, Master of Musical Arts, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Yale University, where she was a student of Thomas Nyfenger. Previously faculty appointments include Maryville College and the University of Tennessee; previous orchestral experience includes the Knoxville, Oak Ridge, and New Haven Symphonies.

I enjoy meeting students exactly where they are in their musical journey.
