About Danielle

Danielle Koenig is an award-winning theatre artist and writer whose work spans musical theatre and comedy. Koenig’s works have been featured at esteemed institutions including Second Stage, Lincoln Center, and Joe's Pub, and have been performed regionally in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Syracuse. Koenig has earned critical acclaim, garnering awards for songwriting, screenwriting, and playwriting through Write Out Loud, Fusion Film Festival honors, and the Humanitas’ David and Lynn Angell Comedy Award.

Koenig has been commissioned by FUSE Theatre and has received three commissions from the Brooklyn Children’s Theater. They are also a proud member of the UNTITLED Musical Writers Group. In addition to their writing, Koenig is a professional actor, developing a wide range of new plays and musicals including Maiden Voyage (New Works Provincetown), 504: A New Musical (Disabled Down Center), The Memory Brigade (The Motor Company), Too Much Lesbian Drama: One Star (Samuel French OOB Play Festival), and Charlotte Lucas is 27 And Not Dead (Piper Theater).

Koenig earned a B.A. from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television and an M.F.A. from NYU Tisch’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.

I teach playwriting workshops that feel more like playgrounds. I encourage mess and mistakes to find magic. I strongly believe the best writing comes when you follow the weird idea down the rabbit hole, even if you’re not sure where it’ll end up.
