About Courtney

Two time quarterfinalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award and IAC/IAA alumni Courtney Kaiser-Sandler is a professional songwriter, vocalist, and musician as well as the founder of the singer-songwriter program at Interlochen Arts Academy. Along with teaching, she oversees the Contemporary Music program (Jazz, Popular Music, Songwriting, and MP&E). Kaiser-Sandler has a passion for pioneering pathways in music education. A sought after Performance coach and presenter on the importance of repeated performance for artistic growth and controlling the inner dialogue, students studying with her move the needle to reach audiences across the globe.

Before Interlochen, she spent 12 years of her career in New York City leading successful bands touring the United States and continental Europe, the most personal project being Kaiser Cartel. Kaiser-Sandler has lent her talents to high-profile artists including John Mellencamp, The Wallflowers, Sufjan Stevens, Petra Haden, Yuka Honda, and Sean Lennon. Her original songs have been heard on film and television including Bored to Death, The Firm, Private Practice, and Liberal Arts. She has worked in the music industry as a booking agent, promoter, and in tour management.

As a philanthropist, she wholeheartedly believes in the importance of Arts education for all. Kaiser-Sandler is co-founder of the High School Songwriting Summit held in Los Angeles annually bringing together developing teenage artists across both in school and after school programs to build community and professional support. Kaiser-Sandler brings her talents to Interlochen's Miami Partnerships by annual visits to Arts Access Miami. She has combined her beliefs in the power of music and protecting the environment, crafting songs to be used by the non-profit organization Art of Conservation to teach conservation to youth in Rwanda. The material is written and performed in both English and Kinyarwanda.

I take a holistic approach to teaching songwriting, striving to understand the student as a whole so that I can bridge their knowledge so far with unchartered territory within the craft. I strive to create a pathway for meaningful and intentional work on and off the stage, we work together to expand artistic identity while investigating blocks inside the artists expression and learn to control the inner dialogue for a more positive performance experience. Our work together results in the student becoming more self-confident, more personally grounded as an artist, and more aware of the ways they are in service to humanity through the transformative power of music.
