About Beth
Elizabeth A. Reed is an Assistant Professor and Area Coordinator of Music Education at Miami University (Ohio). Since 2018, Reed has been the Executive Director of the National String Project Consortium—a non-profit organization focusing on access to string music education in the United States and support to prepare new generations of highly qualified string teachers. She taught all levels of orchestra for 12 years in Fairfax County, Virginia, and one year of middle school orchestra in Chapin, South Carolina. Reed received degrees in music education and studied cello at the University of South Carolina and the Eastman School of Music. As a researcher and clinician, Reed focuses on music teacher identity, culturally responsive teaching, authentic context learning environments such as the String Projects, and pitch perception. Reed has publications in the International Journal of Music Education, String Research Journal, and the American String Teacher. She has been a contributing author in Inspiring a Love of Music and Teaching Music Through Performance in Orchestra, Volume 4. In addition, she has presented clinics and research poster sessions, nationally and internationally, at ASTA, ESTA, IAFOR, ISME, Lilly, NAFME, SMTE, TMEA, OMEA, and VMEA.
