Alex Lew

About Alexander

Alex Lew is a guitarist and teacher based out of Austin, Texas. He loves to spread the joy and wonders of music through his guitar playing. Lew is currently finishing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin. He works for Austin Classical Guitar as a teaching artist by giving private lessons to students in the Austin public school system, and is the assistant director of the Austin Classical Guitar Youth Orchestra. Most recently, Lew coached three high-school aged guitarists in preparation of them performing a guitar quartet with Pepe Romero.

My teaching philosophy is to make sure my students are set up correctly with proper posture and technique and to be literate in music reading. Above all else, I curate my lessons based on the interests of the student. Music should be fun, but also directed in a manner that reinforces discipline and structured learning.
