In Memoriam: November 2025

Charles Routledge Eilber (IAC Fac 62-64, 66; IAA Fac 62-66, 71-72; ICA St 66-71, 72-73) of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on October 8, 2025. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Eilber launched a career that led to educational experiences around the world, including a Fulbright exchange in Wales and graduate study at Harvard. In 1962, he and his wife Carol were recruited to join the inaugural faculty of Interlochen Arts Academy. Eilber served as Division Chair of Math in the first four years of the Academy (62-66), then Principal of IAA (66), Director of IAA (67-69), Principal of Academic Affairs (70), Division Chair of Math once again (71), and Dean of Academic Affairs (72). After his time at Interlochen, he went on to become the founding director of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.

Dr. Willis C. Patterson (UNIV Fac 68-82) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away on October 22, 2025. Dr. Patterson joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 1968, becoming the first African American professor in the School of Music. From 1969 until 1975, he was the music director of the Men's Glee Club and in 1976 he was named chair of the voice faculty. In 1979 he became Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Minority Affairs in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (SMTD). For 15 summers during his time at the University of Michigan, Dr. Patterson taught university and high school students at the National Music Camp.

Philip Lloyd Mason (AS 49-50) of Albion, Michigan, passed away on October 8, 2025.

Mary Nebel Hansen (IAC/NMC 51) of Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed away on September 12, 2025.

Susan Jo Gunning (IAC/NMC 64-65; AS 63; UNIV 67; IAC Fac 79-81, 83-87) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on November 8, 2025.

Michael G. Heroy (AS 66-67, IAC St 68-71) of Angola, Indiana, passed away on October 16, 2025.

Lynn Edward Klock (IAA 67-68, IAC/NMC 68, AS 67, IAC Fac 76-80) of Amherst, Massachusetts, passed away on August 16, 2025.

John Edward Dudd Jr. (IAA 71-75, IAC/NMC 74, UNIV 76) of Broussard, Louisiana passed away on November 15, 2025.

Erica L. Rasmussen-Taxdal Farmer (IAC St 83) of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on October 1, 2025.

David Matthew Huff (IAA 84-86, IAC/NMC 84) of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away on October 30, 2025.

Thomas J. Cizek (ICA St 90-04) of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on September 24, 2025.
