A Vaughan Williams Double-Bill of Songs of Travel and Riders to the Sea

HOME explores the places we leave for and what we leave behind. This evocative double bill pairs Ralph Vaughan Williams’ timeless Songs of Travel with his tragic chamber opera Riders to the Sea.

Through Songs of Travel, physical and emotional landscapes unfold as we consider what it means to belong. Set on the Aran Islands of Ireland, Riders to the Sea explores faith, community, and home in the face of loss and the forces of nature.

The performers have all left people and places behind in pursuit of their art at Interlochen, only to find a new community along the way. Together, these works ask a deeply personal question: Who are we when we leave home, and where do we belong when we arrive?
