Interlochen Voice Festival: Faculty and Guest Artist Concert

Young musicians in grades 8-12 are invited to join Interlochen Arts Academy's faculty and students for Voice Day. This full day of workshops, presentations, and performances will showcase opportunities that define the Interlochen Arts Academy experience.

Voice Day participants and their guests are welcome to attend this closing recital featuring Karen Slack.

Praised as "one of opera’s strongest voices at present – both as a singer and a shaper of its culture” (The Washington Post), GRAMMY® Award-winning soprano Karen Slack is celebrated as both an extraordinary performer and a change-maker in classical music.

In the 2026-27 season, Slack continues her nationally acclaimed African Queens project, with upcoming performances at Elevate Vocal Arts, the State University of New York at Buffalo, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony, and Pacific Symphony. Her season includes major world premieres by Shawn Okpebholo, Damien Geter, and Jessica Murphy Moo, as well as appearances with leading orchestras and presenters across the U.S.

Her album Beyond the Years: Unpublished Songs of Florence Price, recorded with pianist Michelle Cann (Azica/ONEcomposer), won the 2025 GRAMMY® Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album. In 2025, she was featured on Shawn Okpebholo’s album Songs in Flight, released with Cedille Records.

Slack has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Scottish Opera, and many others. In concert, her credits include the Melbourne and Sydney symphonies, Bergen Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall, and Philadelphia Orchestra. She made her New York Philharmonic debut in May 2024.
