Dance Audition Requirements for Summer Programs (Grades 6-8)
Intermediate Classical Ballet
Prerequisites
Students should have had five consecutive years of training at the time of application. While pointe work is not required for the summer camp, students eligible for Interlochen pointe instruction should come with one to two years of training.
Students should be free from injury prior to arrival. Any health-related concern should be acknowledged on the medical form and reported to the dance department prior to arrival. Students are expected to be well-groomed. Long hair must be worn up and off the neck.
Audition Requirements
- Image file: A photograph taken in first arabesque.
- Video file: Center floor exercises (no barre)
- Grand Adagio – including développés in each position, promenades, and pirouettes.
- Petit Allegro – including jêtés and assemblés.
- Grand Allegro – including grand jêtés, grand jêtés entrelacé and tour en l'air for men.
Intermediate Contemporary Dance
Prerequisites
Students should have had at least three years of dance training, and be free of injury prior to arrival. Any health-related concern should be acknowledged on the medical form and reported to the dance department prior to arrival. Students are expected to be well-groomed. Long hair must be worn up and off the neck.
Audition Requirements
- Image file: A photograph taken in full body pose.
- Video file: A three-minute contemporary dance warm-up or solo that includes basic dance vocabulary; the video should give a sense of the applicant's placement, line, body awareness, flexibility and control.
