Writing Mysteries

Why Take Writing Mysteries

Do you have an idea for a great mystery? Have you started a story and become bogged down along the way? Do you need time to flesh out your ideas and structure the story? Join faculty member Aaron Stander and accomplices for a four-day intensive workshop that will walk you through the genre of mystery and crime writing.

Explore the building blocks of this art form including openings and endings, scene development, point of view, narrative voice, the art of detection, and police procedures. During the workshop, you’ll have opportunities to write and share new sketches that could become a part of your book.

Participants need a laptop computer and you must be willing to share your work with other group members. While the focus will be on developing new scenes and chapters, there may be time to revise existing material.

Instructor Aaron Stander has produced 11 crime novels, taught courses and workshops on writing and crime fiction, and reviewed dozens of mysteries for online publications.
