Why take Painting Scenescapes: Documenting Your Travels
Explore your travels using acrylic painting to document expressively and creatively as a subject. You will come away from this online workshop with various ways to interpret your travels through paint.
In this online workshop, you will paint your travels either from memory or from photos using acrylic paints as your medium. Working with a limited palette of colors (see Materials tab below) you will build a better understanding of design elements that compositionally pull a painting together. Prerequisites for this workshop include some painting experience.

Painting Surface Options:
1. 300 lb. watercolor paper hot or cold press. 11” x 14” or thereabouts in size.
2. Stretched canvas preferred over canvas boards. 8” x 10” or slightly larger.
Painting or drawing board to secure your watercolor paper for stability. Easel if available for desk or standing. (Optional)
Acrylic Heavy Body Paints:
Color selection will be comprised mainly of any yellows, blues, reds and white. Brand ideas: Golden, Winsor-Newton or Utrecht (or bring what you have available). Tubes of paint preferred over jars if possible. Please avoid purchasing “Studio Series”acrylic – it has a more liquified result and takes longer to dry.
Preferred Acrylic Paint Colors:
1. (Yellows – purchase at least two): Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Primary Yellow
2. (Blues – purchase at least two): Primary Cyan, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue
3. Cadmium Red Medium
4. Cadmium Orange
5. Magenta or Quinacridone Magenta
6. Dioxazine Purple
7. Titanium White
8. Mars Black
Preferred Brushes:
Hog / Bristol Paint Brushes. Flat or Filbert 3/4”to 1” (#8 to a #10 is great) or any larger brushes you currently have available. A range of two to three larger brushes.
Misc. Materials:
Masking Tape. 1" or wider masking or painting tape to secure paper to painting board.
Palette. Paper plates work great. The plain, cheap kind (no Styrofoam.). Or, bring what you normally use (no glass). Water Container. For rinsing paint brushes. Painting Rags. Clothe works best.
To use Zoom, you will need access to a computer (preferred) or mobile device with internet access. This is a list of basic system requirements.
Screen Size

Zoom are best viewed at a minimum screen size of 11+ inches. If you want to use a device with a smaller screen, we recommend using the mobile apps for Zoom.
