Mountain Dulcimer: Sweet Sounds for the Holidays


Why take Mountain Dulcimer

Learn some festive and fun holiday music for mountain dulcimer in this half-day workshop and take home a generous packet of music from instructor Wanda Degen. Open to students with beginner-level mountain dulcimer experience through intermediate-level players. 

Instructor Wanda Degen has written easy to read and interesting arrangements for many favorite Christmas and winter holiday songs that are festive and fun for the mountain dulcimer. With this sizable packet of music, students will receive includes selections in different tunings—Mixolydian (DAD), Ionian (DAA), & the minor key Aeolian (DAC), and a variety of styles of playing: from flatpicking and fingerpicking, to traditional strumming techniques. Whether you hope to lead singalongs for family gatherings this December or look forward to playing quiet, contemplative music under the twinkling of holiday lights, this workshop will give you plenty to practice in the coming months—and will guide you in the joys that dulcimer music ambiance brings to the season. Students should bring their own instruments.

Please bring a notebook, writing utensil, and your mountain dulcimer. A recording device, either video or audio, will come in handy in this class but is not required.
