Crafty Moves: How to Do Good Camera Work Inside the Poem (Online)
Why Take Crafty Moves
If we think of ourselves led by a camera inside of a poem—both an emotional and visual camera—what can we learn about the poem's needs?
The camera work of a poem is a measure of how the mind moves with the material, inward and outward, and how it adjusts, which is what the poem is always attempting to do—to adjust to a changed or awakened meaning. We’ll carefully track poems with the idea of drawing a map to use for our next poem, to see how we can journey to someplace new.
Poems we may review include:
- "Early in the Morning" Li-Young Lee
- "Marriage" Ellen Bass
- "Love Calls Us to the Things of this World" Richard Wilbur
- "Night" Louise Bogan
- "Flying Through a Hole in the Storm" Fleda Brown
