Chapman Stick Retreat

Why Attend Chapman Stick Retreat
The 2023 Chapman Stick Retreat faculty line-up includes master performers and instructors of the Stick Don Schiff and Tom Griesgraber. Join us for this four-day workshop and gain valuable skills, hone techniques, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow players!
This year’s Chapman Stick Retreat will be the eighth biennial event at Interlochen beginning back in 2009. The retreat will include instruction and inspiration for players of the Stick, the two-handed tapping electric instrument created by Emmett Chapman and popularized in the 1970s and 1980s by Tony Levin, who performed alongside artists including Peter Gabriel and King Crimson.
Master performers and teachers of the Stick, Don Schiff and Tom Griesgraber, will lead technique classes and will perform in concert on the first night. Hands-on sessions throughout the retreat will inspire and support beginners and intermediate to advanced players, while a closing session on the final day will offer all participants a chance to play together. Gain valuable skills and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow Stick players from around the country. See the schedule below for details regarding each instructional session offered during the retreat. Participants must provide their own instrument. See Supplies tab below for details.
