About Vivek

Dr. Vivek Menon is a violinist and improviser based in New York City. Since he started playing violin at the age of 3, Menon has worked with musicians such as Jennifer Koh, Ray Chen, Donald Weilerstein, and members of the JACK, Kronos, Orion, American, and Emerson string quartets. Menon has appeared onstage at notable venues across the country, including Alice Tully Hall, Roulette Intermedium, Dolby Theater, NJPAC, and 54 Below. A gifted arranger and session musician, Menon has written and recorded critically acclaimed string arrangements for artists such as Dasychira, Iglooghost, and Daedelus. He is an active member of New York City’s improvised music scene, and leads his own groups in addition to working with a diverse array of musicians. His practice is collaborative and exploratory, pulling in influences from classical music, jazz, and popular and experimental musics of all kinds.

Menon is a dedicated teacher, and maintains a robust private studio working with students of all ages and skill levels. He is also on faculty at Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and Harlem School of the Arts. Menon was a Pinkerton Fellow and Instructor of Violin at Interlochen Arts Camp in the summer of 2026.

Menon received his doctorate degree in violin performance from Stony Brook University. He also holds a master’s degree from Mannes School of Music and a bachelor’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill.
