About Tina Chang
Tina Chang Qu is a graduate of both The Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School. Her students have been accepted to Harvard University, Yale University, Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music in London, Juilliard School, Indiana University Jacob School of Music, University of Michigan, Northwestern University, University of Washington, Eastman School of Music, Oberlin College-Conservatory, and among others.
As a soloist, Qu has appeared with the LA Philharmonic, National Orchestra of China, Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, American Youth Symphony among many. She is also the violinist of the well established Interlochen Piano Trio. Her performances as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra musician have taken her all over the United States and Europe. She is still actively performing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Virtuoso Chamber Orchestra, Detroit Symphony or Detroit Opera when the opportunity arises.
Over the years, Qu has collaborated with many world renowned conductors and artists such as Simon Rattle, Andre Previn, James Levin, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Herbert Blomstedt, Christoph Eischenbach, Michael Tilson Thomas, Gustavo Dudamel, James Conlon. Artists including Plácedo Domingo, Mstislv Rostropovich, Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Gil Shaham, Hilary Hahn, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Peter Serkin, Leon Fleisher, Andre Watts, Lang Lang, Evgeny Kissin, and Gary Graffman.
Prior to teaching at Interlochen Arts Academy, she taught at Colburn School, HongKong Academy of Performing and Chinese University of HongKong. Her teachers are Dorothy DeLay, Felix Galimir, Jaime Laredo, Ida Kavafian, Pamela Frank, Masao Kawasaki, Alice Schoenfeld, and Wang Zhen Shan. In her spare time, she likes traveling, outdoor activities, yoga, and swimming.
I enjoy seeing the growth of my students through teaching and inspiring them. Great teaching is to let others know where the standard lies, how to develop one's best potential.
