About Tim

Although Rolling Stone magazine celebrated his "bawdy theatricality" for his work with Whiskey Wolves of the West as the Best Backing Band, it is Tim Jones' singing and songwriting that has kept him happily employed in the music business for over two decades.

Since his first major-label release with Sony/550 Music in 1999 with Old Pike, Jones has contributed to hundreds of records including collaborations with Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes; Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket; and the Hotel Cafe Tour; as well as written songs for Shelly Fairchild, Tony Lucca, Szlachetka, Emily West, and Nicki Bluhm. He has also led songwriting workshops with Art of Elysium, Country Music Hall of Fame, Alive Hospice, Kilpatrick, Townsend & Stockton, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and CreatiVets.

Jones’ project, Whiskey Wolves of the West with Leroy Powell, performed their debut show at Stagecoach Music Fest in April of 2016 to critical acclaim from the Los Angeles Times. Their first release, Country Roots, was heralded by Rolling Stone as one of the "Top Ten Country Eps of 2018."

With Truth & Salvage Co., his songs have been featured in TV and movies including Chris Pine's Small Town Saturday Night, Anna Paquin’s Straight A’s, and an international commercial for the Gap, “Them Jeans.” They also toured with the Black Crowes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Avett Brothers, and The Lumineers, playing every major festival from Bonnaroo to Stagecoach and revered venues from Red Rocks to the Fillmore.

Interestingly, in 2002 Jones settled out of court on a copyright infringement case for Billboard magazine’s number-one most-played song of the decade 2000-2010: “Drops of Jupiter.”

Most recently, Jones has combined his love and knowledge of the stage to help his wife, Katie Jones, who is the Executive Director of the non-profit Garden Theater in Frankfort, Michigan.

I love to encourage looking for the magic realism in songs. To let your heart and melody be your guide with simplicity and honesty as the ultimate goal. Enjoying the journey along the way, as much as the destination.
