Dr. Kern received his Ph.D. in School Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. His expertise is in working with students, families, and teachers to evaluate and provide school based support for students with a variety of learning and socioemotional needs. His research has focused on memory, note taking, and study skills with a particular interest in translating research findings into meaningful strategies that help students become independent learners. Dr. Kern is a licensed psychologist in the state of Michigan and is a nationally and state certified school psychologist. He completed his APA accredited internship and a year of post-doctoral training in Chicago at Deerfield High School, and he previously taught 4th and 5th grade science and technical theater in New Orleans at his alma mater, Isidore Newman School.
