Michael Culler is the Senior Recording Engineer at Interlochen Center for the Arts. He oversees all performance recordings at Interlochen where he manages Recording Services and mixes audio for webcasts, Interlochen Public Radio broadcasts, and other various productions. Highlights of his work at Interlochen include engineering broadcasts on Interlochen Public Radio of the New York Philharmonic, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. His solo, chamber, and orchestral recordings of Interlochen Center for the Arts guest artists and ensembles are also featured regularly on American Public Media's Performance Today radio program.
Prior to moving to Interlochen in 2015, Culler worked for five years at the School of Music at Boston University College of Fine Arts, where he served as chief engineer for all concert and recital recordings (including Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artist Orchestra, Chorus, and Wind Ensemble performances in Ozawa Hall and at the Koussevitzky Music Shed at Tanglewood), and he also engineered webcasts live from Symphony Hall with the Boston University Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Chorus. In 2010, Culler was selected as an Audio Engineering Associate in the Music and Sound Program at the Banff Center for Arts and Creativity in Banff, Alberta, Canada, where he worked with guest musicians and artists-in-residence and studied classical recording with some of the most well-respected engineers in the industry, including his mentor, John Dunkerley. In addition, he worked for the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood during the summer of 2010. Before that, he worked as an engineer for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the New England Conservatory of Music. He has worked as a freelance engineer specializing in classical and acoustic music recording since 2007.
Culler has a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Vocal Performance) from Samford University and a Certificate in Audio Production from Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts.
