About Meredith

Dr. Meredith Stemen is an accomplished pianist who is consistently recognized for her exceptional command of the keyboard, exquisite musical sensitivity, and vibrant collaborative spirit that shines through her work. She currently serves as vocal coach and collaborative pianist at the Interlochen Arts Academy.

Stemen recently served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano at the University of West Florida, in addition to previous teaching experience at Louisiana State University and the University of Florida. She previously worked with Interlochen’s Summer Arts Camp as a vocal coach for the advanced opera program. Stemen received a collaborative piano fellowship to the Aspen Music Festival, where she studied both operatic and song literature under the direction of Renée Fleming and Patrick Summers. She was a Jan Miller Studio Artist with Pensacola Opera and worked as pianist and coach on productions of Le Nozze di Figaro and Pagliacci.

A versatile collaborator across both vocal and instrumental repertoire, Stemen is particularly well-versed in literature for the horn and recently served as official pianist for the Northwest Horn Symposium’s annual competition. Recent performances include a horn/piano recital at the University of Portland and collaborations with the Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland, Eugene Opera, UWF Summer Festival Chorus, and the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. She was also featured by the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra as a piano soloist for Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos.

A frequent choral collaborator, Stemen served as principal collaborative pianist for the Pacific Youth Choir in Oregon, the premier youth choral program in the Portland metro area. She also built the flagship applied musicianship course for PYC’s high school students to increase singer independence.

Stemen holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in collaborative piano with a minor in arts administration from Louisiana State University, where she studied with Ana María Otamendi.
