About Max

Over the past several years, Max Onak has built a career in visual arts education around the power of lifelong learning, and every student's infinite potential. Onak currently works as an instructor in K-12 studio arts and fine arts education settings.

Onak is dedicated to promoting the arts and encourages student growth through a dynamic approach to learning that prioritizes experimentation in the studio and fosters a spirit of inclusivity.

Before Interlochen, Onak worked in professional art galleries and museums in the capacity of curatorial research, exhibition development, and collections management. Onak has worked for artist-led initiatives through Michigan art organizations such as SiTE:LAB, ArtPrize, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, the Scholastic Arts, and the Michigan Art Education Foundation.

Onak’s proximity to the Lake Michigan shoreline enables routine visits for inspiration. Onak holds a deep reverence for Michigan and its artist community.

Our art studios provide crucial imaginative spaces for young artists and advance values of inquiry and belonging. I believe in the power of experimentation, play, and discovery. I teach to the whole learner and inspire my students to "think like an artist" as they move through the world.
