About Jiho

Jiho Chung was born in South Korea. Chung completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Memphis and earned his Master's degree in viola performance at the University of Cincinnati. Currently, he is pursuing both a Doctoral Degree and an Artist Diploma in Viola performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Chung specializes in both performance and education, guided by the expertise of professors such as Professor Leonard Schranze, Professor Ayane Kozasa, and Dr. Catharine Lees. Chung not only began teaching as a violin and viola instructor at Tallant Music Studio in Cincinnati but also currently serves as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, teaching both undergraduate and D.M.A. cognate violin students, focusing on viola technique, scales, and various repertoires.

Chung has held principal positions in many school orchestras in the past and recently held a Principal Viola position at I FILARMONICI COLUMBUS Orchestra. His orchestral journey includes enriching experiences with the DePaul University Symphony Orchestra, University of Memphis Symphony Orchestra, CCM Concert Orchestra and Philharmonia, Cedarville University Symphony Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Project Columbus. In addition to his active role in performing in the various orchestras, Chung frequently gives solo and chamber recitals and, he recently won third place in the CCM Chamber Competition. Chung has had numerous opportunities to play in various masterclasses, including those led by pianist Alessio Bax, cellist Edward Arron, Professor Louise Lansdown, and Professor Kirsten Docter. He also had the chance to participate in a side-by-side performance with the Kronos Quartet.
