About Hyemin

A versatile performing artist, Dr. Hyemin Kim serves as a Collaborative Pianist at Interlochen Arts Academy and has a wide range of musical careers as a soloist, recitalist, collaborator, chamber musician, and educator.

As a featured soloist, Kim has been invited to perform with several orchestras, including Philharmonische Solisten Bratislava (Mozart Hall, Wiener Konzerthaus, Austria) and Benzie Area Symphony Orchestra (Corson Auditorium, Interlochen, Michigan). She has also been invited to perform throughout the U.S., Austria, and Korea, including at the Youngsan Grace Hall, Daejeon Culture and Art Foundation (Korea); Panmusica Austria, Grazer Landesmuseum (Austria); the American Protégé Foundation (Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall), Music House Museum, and The Alluvion (U.S.). She has won numerous international piano competitions, including the Internationaler Wiener Pianisten-Wettbewerb, where she received a Schubert Special Award; the Concorso Internazionale de Esecuzione Musicale “NUOVI TALENTI” - Città di Spinea; the Concorso Internazionale - Città di Ischia; and American Protégé International Competition.

As an active chamber musician, Kim has become a sought-after collaborator. She was invited as a pianist at the Styrian Chamber Music Festival (Graz, Austria), and the Music House Museum (Acme, Michigan) has been organizing Hyemin Kim’s Chamber Music Recital Series since 2023. Her chamber music partners have included: Ethan Bensdorf (Trumpet, New York Philharmonic), Hannah Hammel Maser (Principal Flute, Detroit Symphony Orchestra), Keith Bunke (Principal Bassoon, Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Justin Benavidez (Professor of Tuba/Euphonium, Eastman School of Music), Jarrett McCourt (Professor of Tuba/Euphonium, University of Missouri - Kansas City), Christina Jennings (Professor of Flute, University of Colorado Boulder), and Yung-Chiao Wei (Professor of Double Bass, Louisiana State University).

Kim holds double Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Piano Performance as well as in Collaborative Piano from Michigan State University. Prior to joining Interlochen Arts Academy, Kim served as a Piano Instructor at Flint Institute of Music.
